Mushrooms are revered for their rich umami flavor in savory dishes, but have also been associated with numerous health benefits like immunity support and improved sleep and focus. Due to this growing interest in functional mushrooms, functional mushroom ingredients have begun appearing more frequently in beverages like mushroom coffee. This beverage is typically prepared by stirring ground or instant coffee into hot water before stirring a mixture of ground or instant coffee into it; many brands market this drink as an energy boost that will help increase alertness while providing immune support, mood stabilization and more!

Mushroom-infused coffee can come in various forms, from instant mixes and single-serve pods to bags of ground coffee. When selecting any form, be sure to read its label thoroughly, in particular looking out for unnecessary ingredients and sweeteners that could potentially contain caffeine – some brands of mushroom coffee may contain up to 50 milligrams per serving, which is similar to what might be found in a standard cup of joe!

There are various places you can purchase mushroom coffee, from major retail chains’ online stores to independent artisan roasters’ specialty roasters’ shops. While some brands provide subscriptions or kits containing grinder and frother, others simply sell pre-ground or instant powder blends in bags like Four Sigmatic’s instant Latte Mixes as well as mushroom-infused instant Latte mixes that can be added directly to smoothies or used as supplement capsules.

On the whole, mushroom coffees that contain either ground or instant coffee tend to taste similar to regular coffee with only slight mushroomy overtones when used alone; otherwise-coffee-free mixes often take on their unique characteristics from ingredients such as chicory root, dandelion root, cacao bean or cinnamon as an additive flavoring agent.

As part of my review, I sampled several mushroom coffee brands. All were relatively cost-effective options – Joe’y, Atlas+ and Everyday Dose costing about as much as an equivalent 12-ounce bag of regular coffee. Laird Superfoods’ mushroom coffee proved the most budget-conscious option I tested, requiring only two tablespoons of ground coffee per cup and available in a large 12-ounce bag that will last a long time compared to Atlas+, Joe’y, and Shroomi which require significantly more coffee per serving size. Rasa Adaptogenic was my only caffeine-free offering while Joe’y, Atlas+ and Laird Superfoods Everyday Dose each had around 50 milligrams per serving.
