Reishi coffee offers an appealing healthful alternative to coffee or simply wants to switch up their morning cup, with many proven benefits including increasing energy, improving cognition, balancing hormones and prolonging longevity. Reishi mushrooms have long been revered medicinal solutions.

Amy Charnay and Lily Mazzarella found inspiration to create mushroom-infused coffee at the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine. After experimenting with adding powdered reishi mushrooms directly to ground coffee that they then brewed using a French press, their mushroom-infused beverage provided energy balance, improved digestion and helped with sleep betterment at night.

Reishi coffee contains woody medicinal mushrooms such as chaga, reishi and cordyceps renowned for their adaptogenic properties to help manage stress and improve sleep quality. Furthermore, these mushrooms provide antioxidant protection to combat oxidative stress and inflammation as well as beta-glucans to support healthy cells in your body.

Reishi coffee can be created at home by mixing reishi powder with coffee beans and herbs such as milk thistle, dandelion root or cinnamon bark. Reishi coffee can also be purchased pre-made in many health food stores and online; however consumers should be wary that pre-made products could contain undeclared milk that could lead to serious illness for those allergic to it; also mycelial mushrooms do not provide all the same health-promoting compounds found in fruiting bodies of reishi mushrooms do.
