What Does Mushroom Coffee Help With?
Mushroom coffee is a blend of ground dried mushrooms and regular coffee beans, often touted for its health benefits, such as immune system support, cognitive enhancement, liver wellness and antioxidant protection. Furthermore, some claim it to be more energizing than caffeine-only options due to the combination of mushroom extracts with caffeine providing users an anti-tiredness effect; experts disagree as to its efficacy however.
Mushroom coffee often includes medicinal mushrooms like cordyceps, chaga and lion’s mane for their potency of bioactive compounds that provide health benefits. Some can increase oxygen levels in the blood to boost energy while others have been linked with improved mental alertness and cognitive performance.
Additionally, medicinal mushrooms may aid digestion and strengthen the immune system. According to various studies, various species of mushrooms can reduce inflammation and lower stress response in the body; mushrooms such as lion’s mane and reishi may even help detoxify and protect against certain cancers and chronic diseases.
Note, however, that most mushroom coffees contain small quantities of regular coffee beans and thus do not completely avoid caffeine consumption. Caffeine has been linked with symptoms of jitteriness, anxiety and insomnia in some individuals; especially those suffering from cardiovascular conditions.
As such, experts advise only drinking mushroom coffee in moderation and for those concerned about the risks of too much caffeine consumption, it may be better to opt for traditional decaf or non-caffeinated varieties instead.
Concerns with mushroom coffee include its price. One cup may cost more than twice what would normally be spent for regular coffee.
Though it may be tempting to purchase mushroom coffee with its numerous health advantages, in reality you can reap many of those same advantages by simply eating whole mushrooms or adding them into dishes of your own choosing.
Mushrooms contain nutrients like vitamin D and potassium that provide numerous health benefits when consumed regularly. Eating various kinds of mushrooms may improve digestive health, decrease inflammation, promote sound sleep patterns and boost your mood.
Mushrooms such as lion’s mane and reishi varieties often used to prepare mushroom coffee have been demonstrated through preclinical trials to contain anti-inflammatory properties, while being abundant sources of beta-glucan fiber that can help the body and brain cope with occasional stress by lowering cortisol levels. Reishi mushrooms have also been demonstrated in animal studies to aid sleep promotion – though further research may need to take place before this claim can be verified. Lastly, however, certain mushroom coffees can be hard on digestive tract due to being high sources of oxalates that can bind with calcium in body and potentially lead to kidney stones formation – this could result in hardening or hardening of digestive tract.
