Many mushroom coffee blends claim to strengthen immunity, enhance focus, and aid digestion. Their adaptogenic mushrooms – turkey tail, reishi and chaga in particular – contain beta-glucans which have been linked to increased immune function and less inflammation.

No matter their nootropic benefits, most mushroom coffees still contain some caffeine. We have evaluated each option’s amount of caffeine to help you choose one best suited to you.

1. Ten Mushrooms

Ten Mushrooms is a functional mushroom blend composed of ten medicinal mushroom species (including turkey tail, cordyceps and reishi ) grown in the US that are designed to balance and strengthen immunity, reduce inflammation and improve overall health and wellbeing while simultaneously increasing energy levels.

A jar of this powder costs $20 and comes packaged in an unfussy, minimalist tin. This provides an enjoyable change from products that overstate their fungi-boosting claims with overly sophisticated aesthetics and subscription-based marketing schemes.

Ten Mushrooms differs from its competition by not being an instant coffee, yet still producing an enjoyable cup when mixed with hot water. Blending Ten Mushrooms powder with hot water results in an innocuous, lightly bitter, yet silky smooth cup that offers just a slight tickle of alertness that’s highly enjoyable – perfect with some Pacific Foods coconut milk or original Silk soymilk!

Purveyors of mushroom coffee typically take two approaches when creating their delicious beverages: they can go all-out with bold spices and overtones or they can play it safe by mimicking its taste with other flavors, as Ryze does.

2. Laird’s Functional Mushroom Focus

Are You A Coffee Lover Wanting to Try Mushroom Drinks? There Are Plenty Of Options

Experimental coffee blends come in powder form and can be stirred directly into hot or cold drinks, often including instant or ground coffee mixed with ingredients like dandelion root, chicory and cacao. These tend to be slightly more costly than their simpler counterparts.

Laird Superfood’s Organic Performance Mushrooms blend features high-grade coffee beans along with Rhodiola and Lion’s Mane for optimal focus and energy boosting, making this an excellent solution for those suffering from ADD or ADHD.

Laird recently unveiled six organic mushroom powders designed to add extra health benefits into coffee, tea and smoothies: Calm & Relaxation Mushrooms (comprising of reishi, lemon balm and ashwagandha); Focus & Memory Mushrooms (including lion’s mane, L-theanine and coffee cherry); Organic Turkey Tail Mushrooms which promote immunity reduction as well as daily wellness; and Organic Oyster Mushrooms as daily support tools.

Four Sigmatic’s mushroom products include bagged, preground coffee; instant latte mixes; and “capsules,” products which seem tailored for rich Angelenos who disregard science. Four Sigmatic products can be purchased both at natural food stores as well as online.

3. Ryze

Ryze mushroom coffee offers the benefits of both traditional coffee and medicinal mushrooms and herbs for improved cognitive, immune, and energy benefits. Crafted using premium Arabica beans as well as Lion’s Mane, Chaga, Cordyceps and Reishi mushrooms – Ryze is designed to elevate both taste and wellness!

These mushrooms and herbs are well-known for their adaptogenic properties, which help the body adapt to stress without overstimulating or disrupting normal function. Furthermore, mushroom coffee contains less caffeine than traditional coffee varieties to help reduce jitters and enhance sleep quality. In addition, this brand’s mushroom coffee also includes Ashwagandha plant which has potential antioxidant and stress-relief effects.

Reishi mushrooms stand out as one of the key components in this blend, due to their mental clarity and cognitive enhancement properties. According to research by this brand, Reishi mushrooms can stimulate nerve growth factor production which aids brain health and mental performance. Furthermore, this brand employs chaga mushrooms which are well known for their powerful antioxidant content and anti-inflammatory properties; often found as functional beverages to combat oxidative stress while supporting immunity function; in addition to cordyceps for endurance enhancement and increasing respiratory capacity.

4. Shroomi

When it comes to mushroom coffee, purveyors have two choices for creating their product: bold and flavorful spiced brews bursting with overtones or something simpler that more closely resembles memories of other beverages than an independent beverage with an identity all its own. Ryze fits the latter category with their product that seems tailor-made to mimic some of our favorite coffee shop drinks such as vanilla lattes or cinnamon spiced cafe mochas.

The company uses high-quality beans mixed with extracts of chaga, lion’s mane and maitake mushrooms – known for cognitive, stress and immune support respectively – along with antioxidant-rich chaga for additional potential immune support. Unfortunately, however, the product underperforms due to non-standardized extract potencies not meeting clinical dose recommendations.

Brain Brew mushroom coffee brand takes a functional lifestyle approach by promising sharper focus and smoother energy with its blend of lion’s mane, cordyceps and reishi mushrooms. While its coffee may be excellent and its mushroom selection appropriate, such as their cognition-boosting effects (while triterpene-rich Reishi provides balance and triterpenes to the mix), but disclosures could be improved: no mention is made of erinacines cordycepin or beta glucans which could make its clinical strength below clinical strength.

Most mushroom coffees that use ground or instant coffee tend to taste similar to regular coffee, while those without caffeine often take on the flavors of their other ingredients (often chicory, dandelion root, cacao or ashwagandha). However, MUDWTR stands out by using real ground coffee with an original creamer powder made of reishi, chaga and lion’s mane that actually mimics coffee’s taste – potentially making it more powerful than other mushroom coffee products on the market! Additionally, it is one of only few mushroom coffee products standardized for actives so its actives content could potentially increase.

5. Joe’y

When recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or post-concussion syndrome (PCS), the brain needs extra support. Medical treatments and rest are vital, while natural supplements like Joe’y can be particularly helpful. Packed with adaptogens, amino acids, herbs, and minerals designed to nurture brain health – like Lion’s Mane L-theanine KSM-66 Ashwagandha cordyceps mushrooms dandelion root chicory root cinnamon are just some of its ingredients designed to reduce inflammation reduce stress reduce stress support the gut-brain axis.

Joe’y Coffee contains no ground or instant coffee, allowing it to be prepared similarly to regular cups of joe. Plus, its cacao and stevia blend provides half the caffeine of traditional coffee–55 milligrams per serving!

While other mushroom coffees I tried had similar coffee-like flavors, Joe’y stood out from the competition by tasting like its own drink–bold, rich and perfectly roasted. A mix of roasted chicory, cacao and subtle cinnamon blended into an impressive finish without being either sweet or bitter; making this mushroom coffee one of my favorites without the usual caffeine jitters or crashes that accompany too much caffeine consumption – making it an excellent solution for people wanting to reduce caffeine intake while maintaining energy, focus, and mental clarity.
