Nestle-owned coffee giant Nestle-owned is rolling out the first lots of Rainforest Alliance (RA) Regenerative certified coffee to market, according to DCN. On Sept 24th they announced they would begin using RA’s new standard on select coffees that meet it as part of its long-term vision for regenerative agriculture; 17 audited requirements are added onto an existing Sustainable Agriculture Standard certification process to create this certification system.

Regenerative farming has generated much discussion recently, yet its definition remains murky. If a coffee tree becomes sick it cannot be treated and so farmers must grow another one which takes time, water and money – but with regenerative certification schemes this all changes: they promote holistic approaches to growing coffee which go beyond financial gain alone.
