Is Coffee Healthier Than Red Bull?
Coffee and redbull both provide energy boosts to help improve focus and increase productivity in adults and kids alike. Many individuals may be uncertain which beverage is the healthier choice; in this article we’ll compare their nutritional facts in order to make our decision.
At its proper levels of consumption, neither coffee nor red bull are unhealthy. Coffee contains moderate levels of caffeine which are generally considered safe when taken in moderation and helps stimulate and increase alertness while providing essential health-promoting nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, and antioxidants. At higher consumption levels however, more caffeine could potentially cause sleeplessness, jitters or high blood pressure – however these symptoms usually only present themselves if someone already finds caffeine irritating.
Red Bull on the other hand contains high amounts of sugar which will add extra calories to your daily intake. Although there are sugar-free versions, these may still contain artificial sweeteners which could disrupt gut bacteria balance, leading to further health complications as well as being dehydrating. Furthermore, this drink can be extremely dehydrating.
Caffeine is a natural stimulant that works by blocking adenosine, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, and increasing excitatory neurotransmitters such as dopamine and norepinephrine release – two brain chemicals which increase metabolic rate while decreasing fat burning rate; simultaneously these brain chemicals suppress your appetite so you feel full more quickly.
The European Food Safety Authority has recommended an ideal daily dose of caffeine intake of 400mg, equivalent to five 8.4-fl oz cans of Red Bull or five cups of strong coffee per day. Intake up to this level should not raise safety issues for healthy adults; pregnant and breastfeeding women, however, should limit their consumption to 200 mg per day.
Although coffee has zero calories, it does contain carbohydrates which may cause an increase in blood sugar, leading to hunger and cravings. Furthermore, many people add milk or sugar for flavor enhancement, adding additional calories. But you can still enjoy your caffeine in a healthier manner by opting for natural sweeteners like Stevia instead of refined sugars such as refined white flour.
Coffee offers many health-promoting nutrients such as potassium, calcium and manganese that can aid in weight management. Furthermore, its antioxidants may lower cardiovascular disease risk factors like cancer and dementia while its polyphenols may prevent cognitive decline among older adults. While energy drinks provide convenient caffeine consumption without as many additional health benefits than brewed coffee does, too much consumption could have adverse health implications – so moderation should always be observed with regard to any beverage you drink!
