How Long to Steep Mushroom Tea?
One of the more frequently asked questions about mushroom tea is when to steep it for optimal results. The duration depends on your desired results – for instance, using reishi and cordyceps together may provide both energy and mental clarity; or you might prefer an immune-support tea. There are numerous combinations available for different moods and desired effects.
As a rule of thumb, steep your tisane for 5-10 minutes using boiling water. This allows the beneficial compounds in mushrooms to fully infuse your beverage without becoming bitter from oversteeping and maximizes their benefits.
However, as more caffeine and tannins are released from the leaves of a tisane when steeped for too long, this could have detrimental health impacts – so when brewing one it’s essential to use either a reusable filter or mesh strainer when making your beverage.
Mushroom tea differs significantly from its counterpart kombucha in that it doesn’t require the same steep requirements to steep properly. Instead, as a tisane (instead of true Camellia Sinensis teas such as black, green, white or oolong varieties), mushroom tisanes usually contain roots, seeds, stems, flowers or other herbs without sensitive compounds that could be affected negatively by too hot of water temperatures.
As opposed to tablets and tinctures that provide instantaneous relief, mushroom tea’s benefits can only be fully realized when consumed regularly. Therefore, for optimal results it is wise to brew your tea regularly and develop a routine around it.
An optimal way to consume mushroom tea is to consume one or two small glasses per day for maximum benefits, and add some spices such as cinnamon for both taste and health benefits.
If you suffer from chronic illness or disease, it is advisable to speak to your physician to find an individualized dose of mushroom tea that best fits you. Reishi tea is commonly recommended by oncologists and those living with diabetes while cordyceps is often more beneficial in helping alleviate symptoms associated with autoimmune conditions and nervous system disorders.
First step to making mushroom tea: gather all your ingredients and tools together. Next, bring a large pot of water to boil over medium heat; when it reaches this point, remove it from heat and allow it to cool for several minutes before adding shrooms and any optional tea in a jar or other container and stirring well so all components are covered by liquid. Leave this mixture to steep for 10-15 minutes before straining using a fine-mesh strainer and enjoying your beverage! If desired, ginger slices can also be added before enjoying this beverage before adding ginger slices for added ginger slices when drinking this beverage!
