Mushroom tea, as its name implies, is an infusion that contains one or more types of edible mushrooms. Once used as part of ancient medicinal practices and now widely utilized as an aid to increase immune system functioning and relieve stress levels; further studies are still necessary to understand its full effects; however a recent study demonstrated how drinking one cup per morning could be an effective strategy for increasing energy levels and overall immune health.

Nature’s Rise conducted a six-week study where participants consumed one cup of mushroom tea daily for six weeks while keeping a journal and taking blood tests to measure energy, immunity and stress and anxiety levels. Results demonstrated that those who regularly consumed mushroom tea reported reduced stress, improved focus and concentration as well as an enhanced immune response; findings that corroborated previous research using Lion’s Mane Mushroom products such as teas or supplements.

Mushroom tea can be made by steeping a blend of mushrooms in hot water for a short period, yielding numerous health benefits due to the mushroom’s nutritional and healing properties seeping into the boiling water, similar to when spices simmer in oil. This process produces the unique earthy and grounding taste associated with mushroom tea which will vary depending on what species or combination of mushrooms is used in its production.

Some mushroom varieties such as chaga are known for their immune-enhancing qualities, while others help detoxify or balance gut health and wellbeing. Reishi has long been revered as an aid to reduce stress, calm nervous systems and create a greater sense of wellbeing in humans.

While some varieties of mushroom tea include herbs and spices for additional nutritional and therapeutic value, many others can simply be made by mixing dried or freeze-dried mushroom powder into hot water and straining. The result can then be served as traditional tea, herbal infusion or even coffee replacement!

There is an assortment of mushroom tea products available online and in supermarkets. Before adding mushroom tea to your daily routine, especially if you already have existing medical conditions or take medications that interfere with any medications being taken currently, always consult your healthcare provider first and prioritize eating healthily as being of primary importance; not all herbs or teas can treat or cure specific conditions.
