Why Is Coffee Healthy and Coca Cola Unhealthy?
One can of Coke contains 39 grams of sugar — roughly equivalent to 10 teaspoons — which could lead to obesity and other health problems, straining kidneys as they work overtime to flush it from the body. Therefore, those living with diabetes must closely monitor their blood sugar levels and avoid high-sugar drinks such as this one.
Coca-Cola contains chemicals that can harm the body in addition to sugar, such as caffeine. Caffeine increases heart rate and blood pressure, can cause insomnia and nervousness and acts as a diuretic, which means it removes water from the body leading to dehydration; additionally it interferes with calcium absorption which may result in osteoporosis or other health conditions.
Coke products may also pose health hazards to children. Their sugar content exceeds what’s recommended for their ages and this can have adverse impacts on teeth, leading to obesity and diabetes; stomach acid levels being altered, leading to gastritis or ulcers; addictive properties stimulate reward centers of the brain, and may even result in addiction.
Studies have shown that children who drink Coke tend to have lower self-esteem and are more likely to become overweight than their counterparts who don’t drink the sugary beverage. Furthermore, Coke consumption can cause cavities that are expensive and painful to fix as well as tooth loss; hence it would be wise for parents to steer their children away from Coke and similar drinks altogether.
Coca-Cola Company recently unveiled a line of beverages supposedly featuring green tea and an ingredient to aid with weight loss, but many experts prefer coffee over this new line, with one study linking coffee consumption with reduced risk of chronic diseases and healthier aging.
As opposed to Coke, which contains refined sugar and artificial flavors, coffee offers numerous vitamins, minerals and antioxidants while being low in fat and sodium content. Furthermore, one study concluded that drinking coffee reduces risk for diabetes.
Coffee has many additional health advantages, including reduced risks of Parkinson’s disease, depression and cancer. Furthermore, it provides essential sources of folate and potassium while boasting abundant chlorogenic acids renowned for their antioxidative properties.
To obtain all the health benefits from coffee, it should be enjoyed sans milk or sweeteners, adding lemon for flavoring purposes if desired. You could also opt to brew your own coffee using a French press, though this method takes more time but yields stronger, purer taste than commercial options. You could add vanilla extract or another flavored syrup for extra sweetness and variety but if weight loss is your goal it would be wiser to limit or avoid their use since these products often contain high calorie counts and could contribute to weight gain.
