Mushroom coffee has emerged as an attractive functional beverage alternative to regular coffee and is frequently touted for health benefits including cognitive enhancement, immune support and energy boosts. Mushroom-based beverages consist of ground coffee beans combined with extracts from medicinal mushrooms like Lion’s mane (Hericium erinaceus), Chaga (Inonotus obliquus), Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) or Cordyceps militaris. While initial research supports potential health advantages, more robust human clinical trials must take place to verify these claims.

Medicinal mushrooms contain many bioactive compounds that are beneficial to overall health. These include polysaccharides, ergothioneine, antioxidants, phenolic compounds, indole compounds and carotenoids which have anti-inflammatory effects1.
