How to Prepare

Reishi mushroom tea is an easy, cost-effective way to boost your health without breaking the bank. Reishi is also great for strengthening immunity – helping prevent cancers as well as other ailments!

Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma lucidum) have long been revered among herbalists for their powerful healing properties. Ganoderic acid, in particular, has been shown to reduce tumors, lower cholesterol, boost energy and treat liver diseases – as well as prevent insomnia! Reishi mushrooms have long been used as a tonic and general health enhancer, particularly in Eastern medicine but more recently also widely in Western medicine due to their anti-tumor and antiviral benefits.

If you plan on using dried reishi to create your tea, the best way to release its flavor is to chop or grind them finely into powder before adding them into the water. Reishi is notoriously tough – I once broke a coffee grinder trying to cut through them! To maximize results from reishi use, it should either be chopped up finely or ground into powder before mixing into water.

Decocting is the practice of adding water and alcohol-soluble compounds from Reishi mushrooms into tea for optimal medicinal results, and should be performed for around 30 minutes to release more of their benefits into it. Though optional, decocting is highly recommended to reap its full potential health benefits.

Storage

Reishi mushrooms are powerful medicinal mushrooms used in various forms, from tea and tinctures to natural antidepressant medications and longevity boosters. Reishi is well known for its cancer fighting abilities, ability to soothe nerves and anti-stress properties.

Reishi mushrooms have long been used medicinally both in China and the West. Modern research has demonstrated that reishi contains compounds with anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory effects; as well as being considered powerful immune boosters which may help combat disease, prevent cancer, reduce blood pressure and treat cardiovascular issues.

Reishi powder has an extremely limited shelf life due to its woody texture and susceptibility to fungal growth, so drying is one of the best ways to preserve it and extend its lifespan – making it more practical for use in cooking or tea preparations.

Reishi must first be rinsed and cleaned of dirt or debris from its surface and any insects living on it, before patting dry using cloth or paper towel so as to eliminate all moisture before proceeding with its preservation. Soaking mushrooms could rob them of their potency properties and increase its susceptibility to spoilage, so ensure no excessive moisture remains before proceeding with its preservation.

To prepare mushrooms for drying, chop them into quarter-sized pieces using either a meat grinder or food processor. However, consistency in cutting your mushrooms so they all come out equal sizes is of utmost importance so as to achieve success with drying.

After you have chopped your Reishi mushrooms, place them in a glass jar large enough to accommodate all of them with alcohol, up to 3/4 of its capacity. Secure the lid and shake every day for at least a month or as long as necessary before pouring off any liquid from within.

Precautions

Reishi contains anti-inflammatory, immune-modulatory and antioxidant properties. Studies have demonstrated its efficacy at decreasing blood sugar and cholesterol levels while simultaneously reducing triglyceride levels and blood pressure levels. Furthermore, liver damage incidence rates were reduced while kidney function improved significantly as a result of Reishi use. It may even act as an adaptogen by helping your body respond more quickly to stress – providing additional relaxation benefits, stress mitigation benefits or improving cancer treatments effectiveness and increasing overall cellular health benefits.
