Mushroom Tea Recipe
Mushroom teas can be an incredibly effective tool for both the body and mind. Mushroom-infused teas tend to combine various mushroom varieties for maximum effectiveness on both.
Switching out caffeine for mushroom tea is an excellent way to naturally increase energy, yet many still struggle with making this beverage at home. Here is our guide on how you can prepare this popular beverage at home!
Benefits
Mushroom tea is the newest wellness trend that you may have witnessed on social media from celebrities or health influencers. This drink involves steeping dried mushrooms (often medicinal varieties such as chaga or reishi) in hot water for several minutes until all are softened.
As your tea brews, its nutrients and healing properties seep into the boiling water to make a delectable drink that can support your natural immune system and other bodily processes.
At first glance, this tea blend may seem odd, but it is both delicious and beneficial. Combining immune-enhancing mushroom powder with comforting warm chai spices provides numerous health benefits, including improving oxygen consumption, relieving stress relief and increasing endurance and vitality.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and increased awareness surrounding immunity-boosting ingredients, mushroom tea sales have seen an upsurge. This may be attributable to its potential detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties.
There are various methods for creating mushroom tea. While some prefer steeping only one type of mushroom into hot water, others enjoy mixing various mushrooms together for maximum effect. One popular combination is Reishi and Cordyceps Tea which boosts energy while helping promote mental clarity; other combinations such as Lion’s Mane Maitake Tea can enhance memory retention and concentration.
Mushrooms found in this tea are not only an excellent source of antioxidants, but they’re also rich in beta-glucans – a type of polysaccharide-based soluble fiber known to boost immunity and stimulate healthy cell growth. You can drink this tea daily as part of an immune support strategy; its soothing benefits are especially useful during stressful times.
This tea is ideal for anyone seeking to boost their energy without resorting to caffeine, as it contains adaptogens – herbs that help the body cope with stress and anxiety – as well as chaga, an excellent antioxidant which has been shown to strengthen immunity. In addition, manganese, thiamin and potassium can all be found within its composition.
Ingredients
Mushroom tea is an incredible beverage that provides you with an energy boost without the jitters or crash associated with coffee, while still having a subtle, grounding taste which can be customized depending on the type of mushroom used or blend chosen. Plus it provides many health benefits while helping to ease withdrawal symptoms from caffeine consumption!
Though some prefer buying premade mushroom tea blends, making your own is also an option – not only is it cheaper but you can customize your mix according to your specific needs and customize to meet them better! When purchasing any blend be aware of any additional ingredients that might be added or labeled “additive free”.
To create a basic mushroom tea, heat water and combine dried or fresh herbs such as cinnamon (ground or whole quills), star anise, sage, cardamom peppercorns juniper berries and ginger (either grated fresh or powder). Be mindful not to overheat as this could turn them bitter and create a potentially harmful tannic compound in your tea! It is also important not to overdo the herbs since overheating them may make their flavor worsen and change over time resulting in bitter flavors becoming bitter instead.
Once your water is warm, add your herbs of choice and cover. Leave to steep for 20-30 minutes (longer if desired for an enhanced experience and to allow mushrooms time to release nutrients into the water), before straining into an airtight jar for storage – it should last several days in the fridge before going bad!
Some people enjoy adding honey or lemon slices to their mushroom tea in order to sweeten its taste and give it more traditional appeal. Others add slices of lemon for balance against its earthy, mineral flavor.
Preparation
As mushrooms simmer in hot water, they release medicinal and flavorful compounds into the mixture that result in mushroom tea’s rich, complex flavors ranging from earthy to subtle and grounding depending on which variety is used. Mushroom tea can also be created using combinations of mushroom varieties to achieve specific body and mind benefits; such as using Reishi with Cordyceps to increase energy and durability or Lion’s Mane with Reishi for clarity and focus promotion – there are an infinite number of combinations! Once finished remove from heat and serve warm.
