Mushroom Coffee and Reishi Reflux
Mushroom coffee is a wellness-oriented alternative to regular coffee that blends the familiar ritual with functional mushrooms such as Lion’s Mane, Chaga and Reishi that support immunity, focus, and stress management. These mushroom blends tend to be less acidic than their coffee counterparts and contain half as much caffeine per cup – offering a smoother energy curve without the typical spike and crash of traditional beverages.
These mushrooms, particularly Cordyceps and Reishi, contain naturally alkaline-forming properties which help balance out the acidity found in coffee that can cause digestive issues, wear away tooth enamel and lead to other health concerns.
Additionally, these mushrooms promote a healthy gut microbiome and reduce inflammation, while stimulating white blood cells which target abnormal cells (including cancerous ones).
However, these mushrooms may not be for everyone and should be avoided by those with histamine metabolism disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease, SIBO syndrome, immunosuppressant medications like steroids and those taking blood thinners to avoid adverse reactions. Reishi has been shown to decrease blood clotting which could increase surgical risks or interfere with blood thinner medications; also may cause low blood sugar in those with diabetes which may result in hypoglycemia which requires monitoring via glucose tolerance tests.
