Is Seattle Coffee Halal?
Halal refers to foods and beverages that comply with Islamic dietary laws. Unfortunately, many food and beverage companies do not label their products as halal, making it hard for those adhering to this diet to know which items they can order from these businesses.
With Seattle’s growing Muslim population, it is crucial that we support local businesses offering halal options. From falafel in the U District to garlic naan in Maple Leaf – there are plenty of delicious halal restaurants to choose from!
Since the openings of Lune and Toasted cafes, Seattle coffee culture is increasingly intertwined with Muslim community life. These spaces create spaces for Muslims to decompress while sipping Adeni chai while building community; additionally they serve as alternatives to bar culture of Seattle while remaining accessible to young people and college students; Toasted’s location at the U-District proved this particularly true during Ramadan when people queued out the door!
