Mushroom coffee is an unusual combination of brewed coffee and dried mushrooms such as chaga, reishi, cordyceps or lion’s mane that are ground into powder before mixing with coffee in instant form, ground form or special pods. The final drink often has less caffeine than traditional coffee while having an earthy flavor due to the multitude of health-promoting constituents found within mushrooms – polysaccharides, proteoglycans and beta glucans are just some examples.

Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma lucidum) are well-known for their adaptogenic properties, which help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Reishi also supports cognitive function by helping manage anxiety and improve focus; studies on Lion’s Mane mushrooms indicate they could potentially help decrease mild cognitive impairment among older adults although more research needs to be conducted before such claims can be confirmed.

Cordyceps mushrooms have been linked with increased energy levels by stimulating production of mitochondrial ATP (the energy-supplying molecule found within cells). Furthermore, they appear to boost immunity by activating natural killer cells and other white blood cells that help fight infection or disease.
