Is Decaf Coffee Acid Free?
Coffee’s vibrant flavour can cause discomfort for those with acid sensitivity or digestive conditions. That is why many prefer decaf coffee as its milder acidity means less caffeine intake for regular consumers.
The type of beans, roasting level and brewing method can all impact how acidic your coffee tastes; light roasts tend to produce higher acidity levels while cold brew processes may help lower them for a smoother taste.
Acidity gives coffee its signature tart, vibrant taste. This characteristic comes from specific compounds present in coffee beans such as chlorogenic acids and quinic acids which are broken down during roasting, and in Sumatra where tropical climate naturally decreases acidity levels in its beans.
Decaf may contain less acidity than its caffeinated counterpart, yet still contain small amounts of citric acid that could potentially cause heartburn, stomachache and tooth decay in certain individuals. If this is a concern for you, speak to your healthcare provider right away for more advice and seek medical advice immediately if any side effects appear.
