Is Coffee Healthier Than Red Bull?
Coffee and Red Bull are among the most widely consumed energy beverages, but which one is healthier? This article will break it down to help you determine which beverage would be better for your wellbeing.
Coffee is made by roasting coffee beans and grinding them down into a drinkable paste that can either be consumed hot or cold according to personal taste. As a naturally caffeinated beverage that has been enjoyed since antiquity, coffee offers many health benefits; including antioxidants that may reduce heart disease risk as well as help lose weight faster, improve cognitive function, and bolster mood. It has long been recognized for these attributes and more!
Energy drinks have recently become a craze, offering high doses of caffeine and other ingredients to provide temporary energy boost. Unfortunately, however, energy drinks are also notoriously high in sugar and other unhealthy ingredients; to stay on the safe side it would be wiser to select a sugar-free beverage without artificial flavours and colors which contain preservatives that could contribute to tooth decay or energy crashes.
Red Bull contains 80mg of caffeine per 250mL can, which is equal to what can be found in one large cup of home-brewed coffee. Because our bodies can only absorb so much caffeine at one time, it’s advised that no more than two cans are consumed daily.
Energy drinks pose other potential health concerns because of their high sugar and chemical contents, which can contribute to numerous ailments. They may contain additives like taurine which has been linked to cardiac issues as well as being detrimental for digestion systems causing bloating, gas, upset stomach and anxiety symptoms.
Opting for coffee without added sugar will significantly lower its calorie count, but you may still add cream and milk if desired. Natural alternatives to cane sugar such as monk fruit syrup or maple syrup could also work just as well; or dairy-free beverages like almond, soy or coconut milk might even work!
Coffee is often recommended over energy drinks as it contains natural sources of nutrition and antioxidants that may provide greater nourishment and antioxidant protection, without dehydrating as quickly.
