Is Coffee a Nootropic?
Coffee is the world’s favorite drink, yet most drinkers don’t think of their daily cup as an effective nootropic. A nootropic is any substance which enhances cognitive functions such as memory and attention – these range from nutritional supplements like Adderall or Provigil to pharmaceutical drugs like Adderall. One such nootropic that’s widely consumed is caffeine; this works by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain to reduce feelings of tiredness while too much can lead to an abrupt caffeine crash and jitters; therefore pairing caffeine with adaptogens like L-theanine or Rhodiola rosea is becoming increasingly popular.
Step one in making nootropic-infused coffee is selecting the proper beans. For optimal results, Coffea plant berries must be harvested when they’re fully ripe – either manually or machine. These harvested berries then undergo either dry or wet processing techniques; while sun and wind dry techniques utilize drying agents while washing then roasting can result in wet processing techniques being more suitable than drying.
Once the beans have been roasted and ground, their final product can be blended with other ingredients to produce desired effects. For instance, adding bacopa leaf or lion’s mane mushroom can increase mental clarity and stress response – these herbs and mushrooms are known as nootropics and research supports their benefits for improving focus, mood regulation and performance under stressful conditions.
