How to Make Reishi Mushroom Coffee at Home
Reishi mushroom coffee is an alternative beverage made by mixing ground coffee with dried mushrooms such as chaga, reishi and cordyceps, as well as adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha. Mushroom coffee typically contains less caffeine than traditional coffee varieties – providing relief to individuals sensitive to caffeine; plus an abundance of antioxidants and beta-glucans to combat oxidative stress and support immune health.
Reishi has long been used as a tonic to enhance health and longevity, believed to help support natural balance within the body. Studies have demonstrated its anti-ageing, immunomodulatory, cytotoxic (slowing growth of cancer cells), antihyperglycemic and antimicrobial properties.
At home, making Reishi mushroom coffee is easy! Simply combine mushroom powder with your instant or ground coffee of choice. For optimal results, ensure to use mushroom fruiting bodies rather than mycelium for maximum benefit – these contain four times more polysaccharides!
Reishi can be consumed safely by most, though pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should avoid taking it. Furthermore, taking blood thinners together with reishi may increase bleeding risks; also when taken alongside diabetes medications it can produce dramatic drops in blood sugar. In combination with immunosuppressants it may worsen symptoms associated with autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease.
