How to Make Mushroom Tea From Fly Agaric
As public interest in psychoactive mushrooms has increased, so has interest in mushroom tea. These herbal infusions may contain any number of species; however, Amanita muscaria (fly agaric), is well-known for its medicinal qualities and has long been utilized as part of ritualistic practices in northern Europe.
Many medicinal mushrooms used to make tea are widely recognized as adaptogens, substances that help the body cope with stress and anxiety. Furthermore, these fungi also offer immune-enhancing benefits while potentially mitigating oxidative stress effects on the body, helping prevent disease while slowing aging processes.
Reishi, chaga, lion’s mane and turkey tail mushrooms have long been used medicinally as health boosters. Packed with antioxidants and polysaccharides that support immune function and activate specific cells within the body, medicinal mushrooms like Reishi and Chaga are popular choices to promote wellness; their nutritive value includes anti-ageing effects as well as cognitive enhancement benefits; while Turkey Tail boasts its ability to strengthen immunity systems with vitamins A, C, E and B12.
Functional mushrooms can be made into tea using fresh or dried varieties; dried mushrooms offer longer shelf life and are generally easier to work with than their fresh counterparts. Brewing it into tea is a straightforward process that gives you full control of flavor and potency options; start with 1 to 2 teaspoons per serving and adjust as necessary for desired taste and potency levels.
Once your mushrooms have been brewed into tea, you can customize your drink by adding any flavoring you desire – from honey and lemon juice for sweetness, to artificial sweeteners that help mitigate bitterness from mushroom powder.
Making mushroom tea requires boiling water and steeping mushrooms for at least 20 minutes in it, increasing their intensity with each passing moment. Once drinking your tea, wait at least an hour after it has taken effect before engaging in any additional activities – the effects should last between four and six hours!
