How to Add Reishi Mushroom in Your Coffee
Mushroom coffee is a type of functional mushroom beverage made by combining ground Arabica or Robusta coffee with mushrooms such as Reishi, Lion’s Mane or Chaga to produce an alternative coffee beverage that provides additional health benefits, similar to regular coffee but with different characteristics and compounds than the latter. These mushroom-based coffees may offer cognitive and metabolic improvements as well as better digestion and immune system health perks compared to their counterparts.
Reishi mushroom is one of the most widely used ingredients in functional mushroom drinks for good reason. Packed full of health-promoting constituents like polysaccharides, proteoglycans, and beta-glucans; Reishi has anti-inflammatory properties as well as being known as an adaptogen.
Reishi mushroom coffee has a milder taste than many mushroom supplements, making it enjoyable without needing additional sweeteners or artificial flavorings to enhance its flavors. However, certain strains of mushrooms may produce an earthy or funky aroma which might deter some people from trying it out.
Making mushroom coffee requires finding an optimal ratio between mushroom powders and ground coffee grounds. A 50:50 mix should do, though you can experiment to find your ideal taste combination.
At its heart lies quality coffee beans; for the best brew, Robusta or arabica coffee with bold dark roast is best, providing rich flavors to mask any mushroom-y tastes. Furthermore, making sure to brew it at just the right amount of time will ensure maximum enjoyment; overdoing it may result in bitter flavors while too little can leave weak and watery results.
