How Does Nespresso Use Organic Coffee?
Nespresso is dedicated to making an impactful difference for farmers, their communities and our planet. Their support includes expert training programs, sustainable farming practices and competitive prices for produce.
Peru Organic, their latest offering in Nespresso Professional Origins coffee, was grown by smallholder farmers in northwestern Peru near the Andes Mountains and boasts floral and fruity notes that make it stand out.
Sustainability
Nespresso’s global footprint requires them to prioritize sustainability in their decisions. Their focus is on having a positive effect for farmers, employees, communities they serve and the environment alike; ethical sourcing practices are adhered to, and even support small coffee farmers in developing nations so that they have access to equipment needed for producing high-quality organic coffee beans.
But sustainability doesn’t end at product level – consumer behavior plays a pivotal role as well. To truly be earth-friendly and truly sustain coffee consumption, compostable pods offer a revolutionary eco-friendly alternative that offers significant cost-cutting potential.
Compostable pods offer more sustainability than their aluminum counterparts due to being broken down in commercial facilities and turned into compost for reuse, significantly decreasing waste generation and greenhouse gas emissions during their decomposition process. By adopting this simple change, businesses can make an immediate and long-term difference!
Nespresso is making a difference by offering certified organic coffees. They recently added Peru Organic to their Professional Origins line-up, joining three others from Brazil, India and Guatemala. Organic coffees are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizing sprays; rather they’re cultivated and harvested using sustainable practices that protect the natural ecosystem in which their origin lies.
Nespresso Peru Organic coffee farmers are located in Cajamarca region in northern Peru near the foothills of Andes Mountains. These small-scale farmers utilize native plants like guava and lucuma as natural shade trees, protecting coffee cherries from drying out in direct sunlight. Furthermore, no chemical fertilizers were used; rainwater alone was used to irrigate their fields for irrigating purposes resulting in delicious yet sustainable organic coffee that many consumers are now opting for. With this in mind it’s not hard to see why so many are making the switch over.
Origins
Coffee conjures images of lush landscapes filled with ripe cherries being ground into delicious pods to be consumed at home, yet growing it takes much more than that! Growing organically not only benefits the environment but also farmers and consumers by protecting land resources.
Nespresso Peru Organic capsules feature coffee grown by 450 smallholder farmers from Cajamarca region of northwestern Peru. These farmers employ farming management practices which preserve natural environments while forgoing synthetic fertilizer sprays which deplete vitality from land.
These practices enable these farmers to produce premium quality, certified organic coffee that gives consumers a sense of supporting sustainable agriculture. Furthermore, these farmers use native plants like guava and lucuma as shade trees on coffee plants to reduce water usage, further decreasing carbon footprint while simultaneously increasing incomes.
Nespresso recently unveiled their Professional Origins collection featuring four single-origin coffees: India, Guatemala and Brazil. All four coffees in this selection have been grown, harvested and processed with care in each country and all possess characteristic tastes that are distinct to that region.

Organic coffee production was made a conscious decision as part of our long-term vision for regenerative agriculture. Without organic methods in place, trees are not able to heal themselves from diseases – this has an adverse impact on surrounding ecosystems. With organic farming techniques like using natural fertilizers and shade plants such as guava or lucuma trees to naturally protect trees from sunlight – and using less harmful pesticides; our aim was for maximum environmental sustainability with minimal negative health impacts for local communities and humans alike.
