Honduras is well known for its varied geography and climates, making it one of the world’s leading coffee producing countries. Many smallholder producers produce coffee using various Voluntary Sustainability Standards such as Fairtrade, UTZ or 4C certification schemes to improve economic conditions for farmers; however, using propensity score matching, this article shows that gross profit and household income do not significantly differ between Fairtrade/UTZ farmers compared with non-certified counterparts using propensity score matching techniques.
