Health Benefits of Mushroom Tea
Mushroom tea has quickly become the latest health trend, with mushroom enthusiasts crafting cups of this fungus-laden delight to boost immunity, reduce stress and anxiety and promote heart health. Common types include chaga, reishi and lion’s mane mushrooms. This drink may help strengthen your immune system as well as promote overall cardiovascular wellness.
Making mushroom tea can be an easy process. Here’s how you can start making it today.
Chaga
Chaga mushroom is an inconspicuous black-brittled fungus found on birch trees in cold regions and was widely prized by native cultures for centuries for its numerous medicinal benefits, particularly as a tea supplement for immune-boosting and antioxidant purposes. Today, however, its tea preparation is increasingly sought-after for its immune-enhancing and antioxidant capabilities as well as for its immune-enhancing and antioxidant qualities. Chaga contains calcium, potassium, iron, zinc copper manganese phosphorus and sulfur among many other essential vitamins and minerals as well as having powerful anti-inflammatory properties and has even been demonstrated killing cancer cells in Petri dishes!
HFB’s Chaga Tea offers an effective natural energy boost. Crafted from wild-harvested Alaskan Chaga that is sustainably collected, this herbal beverage carefully preserves all of its beneficial compounds for maximum enjoyment both hot and cold. Enjoy!
Chaga differs from most mushrooms by not producing spores or fruiting bodies; rather, it forms a cankor, which is a parasitic black tumor on the surface of trees that has no life of its own. As this parasitic fungus will eventually kill off its host tree unless protected, harvesting only healthy yellow and silver birch trees with mature cankors is recommended; its healing properties make this species popular across North America, Russia and Europe.
Chaga has the same porous structures found on human bones, trapping moisture and other substances within. Like human bones, chaga can serve as a fire starter in the wilderness – often found hiking trails and backwoods excursions as it won’t burn without an ignition source – while also serving as an excellent substitute for coffee grounds in filter-style teapots.
To create a cup of chaga tea, grind the fungus to a fine powder before mixing with 1 tablespoon per 1 cup of boiling water and steep on low heat for 45-60 minutes until your tea resembles dark reddish brown in color. Some prefer steeping chunks in their crock-pot over night to create an even richer, darker and potency brew; it should look similar to black ink for maximum extraction of beneficial compounds.
Reishi
Reishi is an enchanting medicinal mushroom revered in Traditional Chinese Herbalism since the time of Emperors. Reishi can help promote restful sleep, reduce stress and boost immune function while strengthening overall wellness.
Reishi mushrooms contain bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides and triterpenes that may provide health benefits, including antioxidant, antitumor, and immunomodulatory activity. Reishi supplements can be found widely as tea bags, capsules, powder or tablets.
Reishi, like Chaga, is an adaptogen which aids the body’s efforts in maintaining optimal homeostasis by supporting all systems within. Furthermore, Reishi is also a potency immune stimulant which works on genes within white blood cells to increase their ability to destroy cancerous tumors.
Reishi has numerous traditional uses, and is also thought to foster longevity and spiritual wellbeing. Reishi can prevent and treat various conditions including high blood pressure and diabetes while simultaneously lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels; additionally it has also been used for liver disease treatments as well as to reduce inflammation and prevent autoimmune disorders.
Make Reishi tea simply and easily: Bring water or nut milk to a boil and whisk in one teaspoon of Reishi powder, reducing heat to simmer, letting steep for 30-plus minutes and then strain and enjoy. For additional flavor add slices of ginger during simmering time or stir in honey as an optional extra touch.
As with any natural remedy, Reishi should only be consumed after consulting your doctor first. This is particularly important if you suffer from chronic health conditions, take blood-thinning drugs like aspirin or have any conditions which make herbal remedies particularly sensitizing to your system.
Reishi is known for its healing powers; however, few double-blind studies have been done on it. Though many alternative medicine practitioners tout its potential to strengthen immune systems through Reishi use, test-tube experiments have failed to validate this claim.
Lion’s Mane
Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is an edible fungus with a unique flavor profile that works well in both sweet and savory drink recipes. Additionally, this nootropic substance has long been touted to increase cognitive function while supporting nerve health – research shows it may even promote the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), supporting healthy memory and focus. Furthermore, Lion’s Mane boasts powerful antioxidant and immune booster properties thanks to bioactive compounds including hericenones and erinacines which contribute bioactive compounds such as hericenones and erinacines – further strengthening cognitive benefits and supporting nerve health benefits.
Brewing Lion’s Mane mushroom tea can be an efficient and straightforward way to include this extraordinary superfood into your daily routine and maximize its benefits. Brewing tea with this remarkable mushroom is also one of the fastest and easiest ways to increase daily intake.
Once water has reached a boil, add dried lion’s mane mushrooms. Let this simmer for approximately 20 minutes to allow them to absorb any nutrients contained within the hot water and be ready for absorption by your body.
DIRTEA’s Lion’s Mane mushroom extract is carefully produced by SporeShore in Northern Ireland from organic fruiting bodies for an extract that is clean, potent, and effective as nootropic medication. They use both alcohol and water extraction processes in their extraction process to ensure all beneficial compounds are extracted.
This functional blend combines Lion’s Mane mushroom powder with traditional brain supporting herbs like Ginko Biloba, Rosemary, and Gotu Kola to produce a caffeine-free tea designed to promote mental clarity. Perfect when you need an extra boost!
Cordyceps
Cordyceps mushrooms have long been utilized as part of traditional Chinese medicine due to their unique properties that support energy levels, immunity levels and vitality.
Cordyceps sinensis and cordyceps militaris are two renowned cordyceps species for their healing properties: both are native to grassy alpine meadows in Tibet and Northern India and known for increasing oxygen levels, supporting immunity functions and improving athletic performance.
Studies demonstrate that Cordyceps contains powerful polysaccharides with anti-inflammatory and immune-enhancing effects. Furthermore, they provide high levels of dietary fiber for managing healthy blood sugar levels and metabolism regulation, helping balance metabolic rates. Furthermore, its compounds may even have positive impacts on liver health while detoxifying your body and managing blood pressure effectively.
Cordyceps fungus offers numerous health advantages, including its ability to control IgE production – essential in avoiding asthma attacks. Polysaccharides found within Cordyceps have been shown to stimulate Th1 cells while suppressing Th2 cell’s release of IgE. Furthermore, its soluble protein sulfate component has been found to decrease oxidative stress and inflammation within lungs; making Cordyceps an invaluable herb for those experiencing respiratory conditions.
Clinical trials conducted with cordyceps have demonstrated its beneficial properties to address kidney and liver disorders as well as lower urea and creatinine levels in blood. Consuming Bailing capsules (otherwise known as Cs-4 or JinShuiBao) was found to decrease fasting blood glucose, increase thymus weight, and enhance CD4+/CD8+ cell counts for patients suffering renal failure (Wojcikowski et al 2004; Li et al 2009).
Cordyceps has long been used as an aphrodisiac, particularly because of its ability to improve sexual function and balance hormone levels. Cordyceps’ action as an aphrodisiac can be attributed to its high content of ergosterol which promotes sperm cell development and testosterone release (Yang et al. 2010).
At Sacred Plant Co, our extensive Cordyceps tea selection will meet any and all of your health goals. These premium quality blends include pure herbal varieties as well as blends with black, green, oolong, white and rooibos teas.
