Mushroom coffee has quickly gained in popularity among wellness enthusiasts, and it’s easy to understand why. This delicious beverage combines the earthy flavor of coffee with functional mushrooms like Lion’s Mane and Reishi to enhance cognitive function, lower anxiety and stress, as well as strengthen immunity system function and promote gut health – making it a versatile part of any morning routine.

But with so many choices out there, how do you select the ideal mushroom coffee brand? To help make our decision easier, we tested six brands of mushroom coffee and ranked them for taste and flavor, particularly their ability to brew up cups that tasted most similar to regular coffee (without too many discernable mushroom-y flavors).

Our test winner was RYZE Superfoods. Established by surfer Laird Hamilton and volleyball player Gabby Reece, they use four distinct mushrooms combined with Peruvian Arabica beans to craft an enjoyable cup of coffee that tastes very little like mushrooms.

North Spore’s instant coffee powder boasts an abundance of mushrooms compared to many of the mushroom-infused options we tried, using real mushrooms rather than extract. As a result, its smooth taste resembles more that of traditional medium roast than any of its shroom counterparts we tasted.

Artizan Coffee’s mushroom coffee performed very well in our test, producing an exquisite cup that combines smooth richness with an earthy finish. Available for drip and pour over use as well as capsules for Nespresso machines – not to mention being extremely economical at just 97C per ounce!
