Coffee enemas are an alternative medicine practice that involves adding room temperature brewed coffee directly to the rectum in order to cleanse and detoxify it. They have become widely embraced due to their purported detoxifying benefits; stimulating liver production of bile that flushes toxins out of the body; as well as increasing natural glutathione levels for cell protection and detoxification purposes. Unfortunately, however, no evidence suggests coffee enemas can cure cancer or other diseases.

An enema is an intraluminal procedure used to soften stool and make its passage easier, such as when used to reduce bloating or constipation. Coffee enemas may also promote beneficial bacteria within your colon – however there is no scientific proof they can treat cancer or any other diseases, and may result in side effects.

Coffee enemas are part of Max Gerson’s Gerson Therapy, created during the 1930s. Gerson believed cancer to be caused by poor nutrition and long-term exposure to pesticides, chemical fertilisers, air and water pollution – treatments meant to rid the body of these toxins while strengthening natural immune systems to combat disease through daily 13 glass juice intake, organic fruits and vegetables from local farms, vegetarian meals, weekly injections of liver extract with Vitamin B12 injections as well as coffee enemas were included as components of his therapy.

Coffee enemas are an integral component of Gerson therapy as they allegedly stimulate liver activity to produce bile, which flushes toxins out of the body. Furthermore, this therapy aims to increase glutathione production – an antioxidant which supports cell protection and flushes out toxins out of livers.

Although Gerson therapy has never been subjected to scientific study, many have claimed it works based on stories from patients claiming to have been healed of advanced forms of cancer by following its protocols. Yet these claims are based on anecdotal evidence, with many medical experts dismissing Gerson therapy as unproven. Furthermore, no evidence has emerged to demonstrate that combination therapies such as Gerson therapy with coffee enemas are more effective than chemotherapy or other conventional treatments. Protocol can be harmful for some patients as it can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances, leading to dehydration or electrolyte imbalances, serious colitis or perforation of the colon, leading to serious colitis or perforation; that is why doctors caution against its use at home; in fact there is risk involved if an attempt at home is attempted as it may damage one’s colon, leading to severe colitis or rectal burns if they attempt to use this technique themselves.
