Does Mushroom Tea Smell Like Diarrhea?
Mushroom tea is a delicious beverage created by simmering various varieties of mushrooms in hot water for several minutes to release their medicinal and nutritional properties into the liquid. Sometimes other ingredients are also included to provide a unique flavor experience and enhance overall effects of the drink.
One can enjoy mushroom tea in many forms, from tea bags and hot or cold beverages, to drinks made from both fresh and dried mushrooms – although many prefer purchasing pre-made mushroom products instead of making their own tea from fresh mushrooms. When prepared properly, mushroom tea boasts an earthy, delicious flavor when properly prepared – its earthiness provides an added dimension that sets this beverage apart.
Mushroom tea can help to treat many health conditions. Some find the drink helps them sleep more soundly while for others it gives more energy throughout their day, lessen bloat or reduce allergies significantly.
Some may experience side effects after drinking mushroom tea, such as gas or bloating, likely due to it being an FODMAP food type – FODMAPs can be fermented by bacteria in the large intestine, leading to gas, bloat and abdominal discomfort for some people.
Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms, commonly found in grocery stores, contain high concentrations of mannitol polyols that when digested can lead to gas and bloating as well as diarrhea in some individuals.
Whoever experiences side effects associated with mushroom tea should eliminate it from their diet for several weeks and slowly introduce them back in to see if symptoms diminish. They could also try cooking mushrooms first in order to see if this makes any difference in symptoms.
If the symptoms persist, it may be beneficial to switch types of mushroom. Other varieties are generally easier to digest than Psilocybe cubensis and may not cause as much gas and bloating.
Many people opt to mix multiple types of mushrooms into one tea blend in order to get all of the benefits that each mushroom can bring; for instance, using both reishi and cordyceps together can provide both energy and grounding effects, perfect for when you need an extra boost before an important meeting or presentation.
