Does Mushroom Coffee Break a Fast?
Mushroom coffee is an enjoyable alternative to regular black coffee that provides health benefits like mental clarity and immunity support, without the same caffeine hit and lower FODMAP content than its counterpart. Many fasters prefer mushroom coffee as a warm beverage during their fasting window as it provides energy boost without the side-effect of jitters or other unpleasant sensations.
Mushroom coffee contains few calories and no carbs or proteins, meaning it will not disrupt your fast if consumed plain. But adding sugar or cream could surpass the 1-gram threshold and end your fast. Achieving success while fasting requires finding an appropriate balance of nutrients within an eating window without disrupting hormones or blood sugar levels.
If you are on a strict water fast or another modified fasting plan, mushrooms should be limited during your fast. But with Intermittent Fasting protocols that permit small amounts of fruit and/or vegetables such as mushrooms for occasional consumption while fasting, mushrooms coffee can still be enjoyed without disturbing blood sugar and hormone levels.
