Did Ted Drink the Mushroom Tea?
As a wine enthusiast, you may have come across Ted Lasso’s wines. As an American football coach and owner of his eponymous winery in Napa Valley called Littorai, Ted possesses one of the largest wine collections available today.
Ted specializes in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from coastal regions in California and Oregon. His philosophy holds that for optimal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay production, mesoclimatic regions must produce it; his vineyards are located along each littoral zone in each region.
Early on in his wine industry career, Ted worked in vineyards in Burgundy to gain experience producing Pinot Noir from renowned French estates. Later, after receiving his degree in Viticulture and Enology from University of Dijon, he returned home and apprenticed under Josh Jensen at Calera Wine Company.
At that point, he discovered the fascinating process of fermentation and quickly found himself drawn to it as his passion. Fermenting grapes became an obsession as it allowed people to see something differently while also showing him how terroir could be leveraged through winemaking.
After spending some time working with Calera, Ted and Heidi established Littorai Wines under their own label. Critics praised their wines’ elegance, balance, and complexity; as well as earning respect from many American wine consumers.
Ted continues to hone his craft as a winemaker and vineyard manager, consulting on projects at Archery Summit, Keller Estate and Burn Cottage (Central Otago New Zealand) wineries as well as Reverie Winery in Napa Valley where his wines have received high marks from both critics and consumers. Furthermore he consults for Black-Sears Winery as well as Howell Mountain wineries.
Fans of the show know that Ted hails from Kansas. In the episode “Sunflowers”, an American restaurant called Yankee Doodle Burger Barn can be seen in Amsterdam; if you want a taste of home while visiting one of Amsterdam’s other burger joints such as Burgerbar Kolksteeg or Bar-B Burgers ‘N’ Beers instead.
In the third act of Episode 6, Richmond players embark on an eye-opening mushroom trip that forces them out of their comfort zones and into unfamiliar territory. Evoking The Wizard of Oz’s iconic trip, players experience colors and shapes on their field while hearing voices and witnessing visions that lead them to new insights about football.
This hilarious scene serves as an illustration of how mushrooms can help heal and rewire our brains. Mushrooms have long been used as medicine, with thousands of years worth of use helping treat cancer, anxiety and depression, even addiction! Furthermore, mushrooms have also been shown to improve heart health by increasing blood flow; for more information about this topic watch Paul Stamets’ informative Ted Talk.
