As soon as coffee capsules were first released, there was much criticism surrounding their production and consumption. Since then, however, improvements have been made that make these capsules much more eco-friendly and healthier to consume – many people are turning towards coffee capsules because they provide convenience while offering similar taste as ground coffee.

One of the major complaints against coffee capsules is their environmental footprint. This is because many of their primary production materials aren’t biodegradable and end up in landfills or being burned for fuel. Luckily, there are companies producing biodegradable capsules which can be recycled multiple times for less pollution in total.

People don’t like capsules because of the various additives they contain. Most of these chemicals may have adverse reactions on our health systems and could result in health problems for ourselves or even causing irreparable harm.

Coffee capsules offer numerous health benefits that may assist with weight loss. One such benefit is increased metabolism rate and fat burning capability due to chlorogenic acids found in coffee, known for aiding weight loss.

Coffee capsules may also help diabetic patients to lower their blood sugar levels by maintaining low glucose levels through their acidity content, thus helping to avoid complications like nerve and kidney damage that arise with high glucose levels.

Ground coffee can become exposed to contaminants during preparation, making it more prone to germs and contaminants in its environment. With capsule coffee however, you are protected from such exposure with its sealed package containing no dirt or contaminants that could compromise its flavor or quality.

While the risk is likely relatively low, it’s worth bearing in mind that these capsules are made of plastic and aluminium, and when exposed to hot temperatures and pressure during brewing they may release potentially toxic substances into your coffee which are known as endocrine disruptors which mimic estrogen or interfere with hormone receptors in your body causing long-term exposure. There are ways you can decrease this exposure such as switching over to using a stovetop coffee maker or switching pods made from recyclable or compostable material which will significantly lower daily exposure reducing daily exposure significantly.
